Summer is here

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

I went swimming in the ocean today. I have not swum in the ocean since third beach at Stanley Park in the 80s.

We set up the Snowfield tent in the back yard tonight so Victor and I could “camp” but he would not go to sleep, so we’ll do something in there tomorrow instead.

It was hot today, the weather network was talking about humidex, something you don’t hear much in these parts. It is still very warm — nice temperature here in the basement but not nice upstairs. Maybe i’ll sleep outside after all…

SRVI Followup

Turns out someone vandalized the SRVI locos and they’re out of service. Man how i would love to catch some metal thieves in the act, grr!

Down the Road

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Five minutes down the road live our very good friends, who we see at completely irregular intervals and never get enough of. We have so much in common and so much in difference, it always makes for a good level of interestingness. We are opposites but i think we understand each other well.

Now they are leaving for ever, and i think about the times we spent and the times we’ll no longer spend and it opens up that well inside. We’ll see each other again and may it be as with any best friends, as though you’ve been here or we’ve been there all along.

Thank you for letting us into your lives. We’ll miss you, and see you soon.

Coworkers

J has been working here this week since his home office has been decommissioned. I have to say, it is so nice sharing space with someone else. I feel more productive and energetic - it totally kills the doldrums of working alone. I am thinking maybe it is time to find a group of similar people in Nanaimo who telecommute and rent some real office space; i doubt C. will be coming back anytime soon with my place being so far from his, and it’s been what, over a year i think? :)

Train Caper?

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I stopped near the Wellcox rail yard this morning at about 7:15 to see if there was any activity. At first it appeared that there was nothing going on, the two SRVI locomotives were parked in their usual spot. As i drove away i noticed two or three police vehicles (one had nonspecific markings), then some officers talking with someone who appeared to be a .. rail worker? Nearby, the rail barge was just departing and contained some hopper and tank cars.

update Jun 24: this was supposed to be a note to self but wordpress appears to have ignored the ‘private’ status. meh.
