USGSEN

hmm, USGS Earthquake Notification system has decided to reset my confguration which was for events “between -90.0/90.0 latitude and 180.0/-180.0 longitude, for M6.0 at all times” . Now for some reason it has spontanously changed to “…for M3.5 between 08:00 and 20:00 and M4.0 other times”. I wonder how that happened. Also annoying is that when i log in to fix settings, the correct configuration is displayed!

It’s 9am and it’s still -25C here, -31 in Alliston. Looking forward to seeing the wet coast in a couple of days :D

2007 recap

over 40 days without an update, maybe that’s a record? I am in Ontario for about 3 more days, then it’s back to the relatively tropical climate of Nanaimo, hooray! Being here in the cold and snow has not been so bad, though i have been going antsy dealing with scheduling conflicts which leave me not much to do except watch movies and play Settlers. The game playing i can handle more than the movie watching, i just hate sitting down in ‘absorb’ mode for that long. Obviously if we lived here it would be different and i would have a set schedule of things to do, so i am not using any of this experience as ammunition for or against moving back east. I am pretty pleased with 2007 on the whole. I think i got a lot more exercise and i improved my diet. IIRC i also spent less time doing renos etc, and the time i did spend was more productive. Last year we finished the back fence, trimmed and painted the front side of the house, replaced the back door, moved the apple tree, put in a lawn, finished the playroom (paint and laminate floor), put down flooring in the hall, and finally dealt with the attic hatch. This spring i have a retaining wall to build, i hope that it will be a fun construction project. Inside i will be tackling trimwork when i get the chance. Sportwise, i think i will take some swimming classes this winter and possibly start a training regimen to try and boost my climbing performance. As you know I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, but over this holiday i did decide to spend less time in the shower - not only will it help to save water, but even if i cut 5 minutes each day that is 30 hours saved over the course of the year. Hah!
