looks like the pacfic plate is really on the move in the last 18 hours. Tons of magnitude 5 and 6 quakes SE of the Loyalty Islands, and then a 7.4 in the Mariana Islands region. These places are 5000-6000 km apart but are both on the pacific plate boundary. Links: earthquake map of Loyalty Islands Area, earthquake map of Mariana Islands area.

turned the heating on today for the 1st time since beginning of summer. Hydro bill also arrived today, i believe it is the lowest bill in the last 24 months, and in that case probably the lowest ever at this house. I am not sure what else we can do to reduce our energy use/loss, however, sealing the attic hatch (fall project) should help with that a little. I really ought to get it done asap because it is not an overly complex job. One of the Avocados has done extremely well this summer, the others are still puny. It will be time to bring them back inside very soon.
