coffee time.

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

This coming long weekend, i think we originally planned to continue work on the back fence. However, on friday we noticed a bulge in the ceiling of the downstairs bathroom. The sort of bulge that indicates a water problem. Sure, this is under the new bathroom, so it could be a leak, but why would it have taken this long to show up? One answer to that could be that the blown insulation which fills the cavity has been absorbing water until now. The nightmare situation would be if it isn’t water at all, but an ant problem — i have seen carpenter ants entering the house in that vicinity. there is no doubt that there is an ant nest somewhere in the house, though i had been hoping it was in a wall. Then on top of that, i might have to go to Florida next week. I really don’t want to go, but have no choice. All i can hope is that we can convince them that the meeting is unnecessary, though we’ve almost run out of time for that. Time to put the coffee on!

climbing update

Friday, August 18th, 2006

I went climbing last night. The last time i went was last thursday, and i only bouldered for about 25 min — since it was my first day back in about a month i didn’t want to overdo it. So last night was pretty good; bouldered for maybe a half hour then top roped the rest of the night. Flashed various 5.10 grades, but had troubles with some 5.11-. I might take the lead course soon; the next one is the 30th, but i might not be here, so it would have to wait until end of Sept. Now i must go and check my laptop battery serial# on dell’s website to make sure it is not one that goes kaboom.

“security”

Friday, August 11th, 2006

I predict a future newspaper article, “To help fight the war on drugs, mandatory drug screenings are required before you can enter your building for work in the morning”. This carry-on business is ridiculous. Had security “experts” really been ignoring the obvious possibility that people might smuggle the components of explosive coctails on to planes disguised as perfume and suntan lotion? I doubt it. I suspect that someone with clout said it was too farfetched. Anyhow, people finally realized that yes indeed, the ter’rists are not dumb and will actually try all sorts of sneaky ways to blow things up. But how far will the security measures go? All carry on banned forever? Maybe all carry on items that have moving parts? Am i ever going to be able to carry-on a laptop? Wait… laptops are still allowed on planes… but how hard would it be to put semtex or something else inside a laptop battery and have it go unnoticed? Probably simple.

fore!

Bloodwork shows all systems normal, including white blood cell count. This is good because it means my full attention can now be focused on an entirely unrelated medical issue, the details of which i can’t reveal here.
