kWh followup

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

9.6 kWh per day * 60 days * Usage Charge of $0.06050 per kWh equates to around $35 bucks down the tube. OMFG. Time to turn those computers off at night!

holy heating costs batman!

Just got our hydro bill for Mid Feb to Mid April. This period we used almost twice as much energy as we did in the same period last year! (daily average jumped from 67 kWh to 104 kWh). It has not been unseasonably cool, so it is definitely time to identify what we’re doing wrong. Immediately i can think of one culprit — a couple of extra computers running 24/7, but that is only say 400W, which equates to 9.6kWh per day. Then there are the heaters, which were disconnected last april, so we just ‘put up’ with the chilliness upstairs. maybe that’s all it is. I will have to check their rating, and also, i will have to compare against our energy consumption for the same period in 2004. when we did have heat.

junk mail

Mozilla’s junk mail filter is pretty good, but, it really bugs me because it runs filters on stuff that has already passed my own message filters and has been put into the correct location! It should only run its junk filter on stuff in my inbox! Maybe this problem is fixed in thunderbird and I should consider moving to a firefox/thunderbird setup at some point.

It is ~20 in here, but i am really cold, yet have no fever. My lungs feel like they are full of .. stuff.. yet i can breathe deeply and clearly and have no urge to cough. Maybe this is the first stage of “J’s Ebola”. I expect to be gurgling by week’s end. JavaBoy sent me a link to SQL on Rails which is pretty good parody of Ruby on Rails. It will be funnier if you’ve watched the Ruby on Rails screencast first.
