a pox on you, drywall!

Drywalling is for the birds. I have barely procrastinated on this particular stage and i am still WAY behind. It looks like i’ll be doing the final sand on wednesday morning. It couldn’t get much more last minute than that. I just don’t have the energy to do mudding for more than 3 hours at a time, and for some crazy reason, 3 hours does not produce a whole lot of results. Although, i discovered tonight after opening a new vat of mud, that the mud’s consistency has a whole lot to do with the coverage per hour. The stuff i had been working with for the past week had been much, much drier, and thus a little harder to work with, though at the time i thought it was fine. The new stuff is like butter, which spreads on very fast and stays damp a little longer, which are both good things. Tomorrow morning will be a sanding, then there are still a few corners and edges to do. tomorrow night will be various sands and touch ups, which wednesday morning being the final sand. I was going to be good and have a glass of water before bed but i broke down and cracked open a beer. sigh.

Still have not finished putting up drywall. lots of swearing loudly though; whilst standing beneath a gaping hole into the attic, so i am sure the neighbourhood heard it all. I stopped tonight because i figured it was too late to be running the saw @11pm. The last thing i want is a stop-work order due to noise complaints :D I still have time though, to get the hallway done by the end of the weekend. Enlisting one of my brothers (who is coming on the weekend) to help me get some drywall and help with other stuff, including drinking some beer. I am annoyed and pleased with my drywall estimate. I don’t remember how i accounted for waste — maybe i didn’t, because i got exactly the right amount. Which is bad because there is over one sheet’s worth of waste, so I am actually short a little. I sure am glad dryall is recycleable, though it sure is a hidden cost — one sheet’s worth means 12 bucks down the drain, and it probably costs that much to dispose of it. bah.

I am by myself for 2 weeks. If i had my ducks in order, this would mean lots of free time to work on computer projects (what an awesome thought!), but instead it means i will have lots of spare time to work on renovations, punctuated by the occasional beer night while J is not out of town, with any extra time spend on aformentioned projects. Not a bad combination of things, and it would be really nice to get the hallway and 3rd bedroom finished. Bouldering tonight was nothing special, just enough exertion to get the blood pumping, which was good.. basically just ran around on V1 and V2 routes. Did not want to wear myself out since i will be working this evening. I was attentive this morning and timed the drive up to Courtenay. almost exactly one hour from our house to the freeway exit at Courtenay. add about 5 min to get into the city, 10-15 to get to the airport. You know, i really wish people would be forward thinking about airport access; there should be a direct fast route to the nearest highway! Getting to the Comox airport requires that you drive right through the city (ie 50km/h). But really that is a subject for a whole other future website (stop the absurdity dot com, or something like that). Anyhow, i always thought the place was farther from Nanaimo than that, so the idea of moving to the Courtenay area now seems little nicer. On that subject, the idea of moving back to Ontario is certiainly still in play at the moment. We are biding our time and need to weight all the data, and we’d also really like to live in a house that is not under renovation all the time. So, maybe when we’re done all that, and we can sit back and relax, this place will gain a little more appeal… who knows.

been quite stressed recently. crazily, the only reason i have not gone out and bought some smokes is that i feel like i owe it to J — i would not want his intervention to have been for nothing. Maybe i need to take up boxing or something.
