more climbing updates

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

not climbing this week (well, tonight at least) due to a cold. Hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow night, and failing that, by the weekend. Last week i only hit the gym once because my usual climbing partners had various other things going on. I spent my time bouldering — managed a few V3 and half a V4. This seems good since they supposedly translate to lower 5.12 climbs! I cannot believe that, the V3s were tough, but not that tough. So i can only suspect that once again the scaling at this gym is a little bit skewed.

gun ban

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

So Paul Martin has said that if re-elected he will ban private ownership of handguns in Canada. What the fuck! How does he expect this to have an effect on criminals who obtained their guns illegally?! There are a few things to consider here, not in the least being:

  • Police officers in Canada have shot and killed at least 2 *unarmed* people this year. The gun ban won’t fix this problem.
  • If only gov’t (police, military, etc) has access to handguns, that means handguns still have to get imported into canada — which means the black market potential still exits and the problem has not gone away!

I wonder how much good a letter to a politician will do.

climbing update

forgot to mention — i climbed two 5.11 routes last night (thursday). it felt very good, especially since i was beginning to think i was not progressing quickly enough. I am still lacking in something though (darnit!), as there are some 5.10+ routes that continue to kick my ass. Big overhangs definitely still present somewhat of a challenge for me…
