another def con is upon us, and once again i am not going. This year i thought i had played my cards right, but the forces of nature were against me. Scheduling conflicts have dictated that i will be doing other things instead of heading to Vegas for fun and excitement. bah.

The shuttle launch went off without a hitch. I was quite surprised to hear an astronaut make reference to the sensor fix as ‘jiggling some wires about’; not very scientific. I’m glad the shuttle is flying again, but mostly just because i like rockets etc. It would be nice if some country’s space agency would come up with a better way to fly a dozen people into orbit and back. I also wonder how long it will be before a made-for-tv movie is done about the Columbia disaster.

The plan is that on wednesday we’ll head up-island for 4 days or so. The problem is that the other ‘we’ has an install coming up on the 26th, which is next tuesday. That basically gives me the next 2 days to work on stuff and make sure i’ve closed out a specific milestone. We’d reached the milestone a couple of weeks back, but extra tickets kept getting added to it (tweaks, new bugs) and now we’re behind again. It will be a long couple of days, ugh.

Jo is awesome. Not because she brings me Starbucks at work — but that is certainly a bonus :D

I have become very good at producing leak-free joints in copper plumbing. Even so, when i turned the cold water back on last night, water sprayed everywhere! I was in the basement at the time, so all i could hear was Jo upstairs, “Stop! Stop! Turn it off!”, sort of like Han Solo on the Falcon in ESB. As it turns out, it doesn’t matter how well you can solder joints if you can’t remember to do all of them!
