More Progress

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

I was extremely pleased with this tuesday’s trip to the gym. Finally conquered the 5.10+ that was giving me so many problems. Then overcame the lower graded but seemingly more difficult 5.10 (mostly tiny holds) which had until this point seemed impassable. Overall grip strength is definitely improving, and energy saving techniques are becoming more refined. Onwards and upwards! Bathroom reno progresses more slowly. Hopefully this weekend will see the plumbing completed, or some walls erected, or both!

Stupid Linux Update #?

Got my network card and scsi card to not hang up, by switching to a 2.4 kernel (instead of a 2.6 kernel). Of course, now the machine won’t shut down automatically. I have a sneaking suspicion that ACPI has something to do with this, but then again, linux could just be dumb.

Climbed nothing but 5.10 and higher today. On-sited one that i’ve never done before. The 5.10+ and 5.11- routes are still proving to be hurdles, but i am getting much closer to conquering them!

OMFG I hate you linux!

Finally decided to mvoe newzeno’s data onto the new box. As usual, it is fucking impossible to do without beating my head against a wall. The machine has in it an adaptec SCSI controller, and whenever the aic7xxx module tries to load it “hangs”. I tried to load the module manually; it doesn’t freeze the box, it just sits there and can’t be interrupted.. or so it seems.. i sent many abort and hangup signals to it, and ten minutes later i finally saw it logging that it recieved them!! Aieee!

Silly Situation.

This weekend i reacquired a computer that i didn’t know I had. About two years ago i got a used HP Kayak workstation for a friend, and he’s done with it now, so gave it back to me. What a pleasant surprise! The machine has a PIII Xeon 550 (with a slot for a 2nd proc), a CD Writer, SCSI Hard Disk, and 256MB RAM… quite a bit better than the box i have lined up to be the new Zeno. Should i delay some more (since new zeno is finally ready to go) and get this box running, Or just forget it for the time being?
