road to recovery?

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

Finally made it back to the gym this weekend; My brother was in town and i’d promised i’d take him climbing. Fortunately i was doing alright in the health department with only a slight cough. Today my symptoms are about the same, so i’m feeling “alright”… however, tomorrow will mark the beginning of week 4 of the cold. If i still feel under the weather i will be making a doctor’s appointment… something i’d prefer to avoid.

Ahh, sun!

I just checked out The New VR’s webcam in Orillia, and decided to compare it to Island.net’s webcam here in Nanaimo. This gives a good illustration of the things i like about living on Vancouver island in February.

It just won’t go away.

So i woke up this morning to yet another clear sunny day! It’s been like this for at least a week now, which is really great. And to top it off, it felt like my cold was also gone — no sore throat! Then i tried to talk. Nothing. My voicebox was so clogged with mucus that i was comletely mute. So much for the cold being gone (now into week 3!). However, it is nice to not have the sore throat to contend with. Time for some vitamin C and echinacea.

Not sure why i haven’t updated much recently. A lot has been going on, we traded in the car for a different vehicle, and i think i was waiting to get some good pics before posting about it. But honestly, i don’t care about showing people what sort of vehicle i drive now, since it’s not important. In other news, home renovations are starting up again this weekend, so that should be a lot of fun (de-moldifying the insides of the bathroom walls). I have been playing around with the Microsoft Speech Recognition SDK. I was kind of thinking that it really sucks, but honestly, for something completely free, it really is great! It seems that with training it does get quite accurate, however there doesn’t seem to be any way to program new words into its dictionary , and that’s probably the most annoying thing about it. However, i am still probing around and hoping that maybe i can do my own parsing at the phoneme level and thus build up my own dictionary… “Computer. Google for computer stores in Nanaimo!
