Mt. Hooker Camping.

Saturday, January 29th, 2005

Just got back from an overnight camping trip. The planned outing was 1 day longer, but circumstances beyond our control (active logging on one of our destination mountains) cut a leg off the trip. Nevertheless we had fun climbing Mt hooker (south side of Nanaimo lakes)! Here are some preliminary pics from my camera; more from the other camera later.

Kernel Nuances

Thursday, January 20th, 2005

To update: switching to a different kernel solved the boot problem! Not sure what the exact differences are, since they are pre-built kernels, not custom ones. A case of a hardware problem being brought to life by a software problem. Grrr…

The machine in question used to reboot no problem at all. In fact, it still does, IF linux has not yet finished booting. After installing linux, booting is fucked. If i shutdown -h, then ctrl-alt-del after the system has halted, it *tries* to reboot, but the machine hangs before the POST. The three finger salute works fine if linux has not finished booting the kernel. Obviously there is some driver/hardware incompatability that is screwing everything up. Everything always has to be so damn difficult!

Ow!

Good day at the gym yesterday. On-sited a 5.11-! I am definitely progressing quite quickly. The book Chris loaned me - a guide to climbing techniques - certainly helped a lot. However, i forgot to do cool-down stretches and paid for it: Today the inside of my thigh is knotted tight. *grumble*

NewZeno update

Tuesday, January 18th, 2005

Well, i finally acquired a drive.. much larger than i originally wanted, but i guess that’s what people expect these days. So the new zeno (aka dirac) is now having its OS installed (not slackware!!) and things configured. I must remember to install the quota package!
