Missouri

Thursday, April 22nd, 2004

I am in St. Louis right now, on a work trip. I saw a few road signs yesterday which said, “Left turn yields on green”, with a big green dot; yes, referring to a traffic light. This would not be so odd except that the sign looks identical to those you might see in BC, and I don’t recall having seen them anywhere else before. I am pretty tired, so I’m not sure why I am writing about this. ttfn.

Copy Rights

There’s an short article on the CBC website talking about how our Heritage Minister wants to make music sharing illegal. This is a great quote from the article: “Downloading a song for personal use does not amount to infringement,” Justice Konrad von Finckenstein wrote in his decision. “I cannot see a real difference between a library that places a photocopy machine in a room full of copyrighted material and a computer user that places a personal copy on a shared directory.”

CRTC’s Mother-

‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ was on CityTV this evening, and while i did not watch the whole thing, I did watch a couple of minutes worth, and noticed something surprising: “Motherfucker” was bleeped (or rather silenced) out! This seems strange because the words ‘fuck’, ’shit’, ‘bitch’, ‘asshole’, and many other expletives are NOT edited (i believe there is a time-based cut off, like 9pm or something, before which these words would be edited). I can’t quite figure out what makes ‘motherfucker’ so much “worse” than ‘fucker’!

Something to Post About

My new work laptop arrived yesterday. Apart from it having zero ps/2 ports (i like to use a real kbd and mouse with a laptop) it is, so far, a great improvement over my previous machine. In fact, I can be logged in to windows on the new box before the old box has even completed its POST! There is a 2600 meet tonight. I must try hard not to forget.
