last minute backups.

Tuesday, July 29th, 2003

I am currently running backups of my entire fileserver at home. Yes, i know it should be automated and i have no idea why it isn’t. Anyway, since the fileserver will be partially dismantled tomorrow for its trip to BC, i really thought i ought to keep a copy of some of the 4.1 GB of important userdata. By today’s “standards”, 4GB doesn’t seem like much.. but when it is mostly source code and documents, that’s quite a lot of stuff. That’s right, no stolen mp3s here! I wonder if it is a bad idea to perform manual backups while intoxicated.

Hyperlink Helper

… All the goodness of Hamburger Helper with zero food value! Google does not seem to have indexed this domain’s main page (recently at least), and that’s probably why it hasn’t indexed the Nanaimo 2600 page. Of course, by posting this article that will all change very soon. Whee!

Fiendish Factories

Thursday, July 24th, 2003

Snee and I walked the factory mile in Orillia this evening. There is some neat looking shit there. Snee climbed onto a roof of one and I feel very bad for not also going, because i had convinced myself that the guys in the welding shop across the way would see us. I stayed behind and looked after the golf ball. :( The other factories are much bigger, and a gate almost had us drawn inside, when we noticed the nice CCTV cameras. Is there harm in looking when there are no ‘no trespassing’ signs? I feel like i totally copped out tonight and feel quite bad about it. Bah.

cAfFiEnE!!

I recently drank a cup of strong coffee on an empty stomach, and while caffiene is usually quite ineffective on my system, right now i feel a little hopped up. The good thing is that it probably indicates that i’ve been cutting back sufficiently. In unrelated news, I may have found a house to buy.

Final Fortnight

Monday, July 14th, 2003

There are 14 work days remaining before I vacate my office and home, and begin the journey to the west coast. The only think that is stressing me is the amount of work i’d like to get done in that amount of time… ugh. Included in that work is tidying out my office so that the next guy in line can move in, and making sure my network documentation is up to snuff (it probably isn’t). I think the machine that runs rm-rstar.com will remain in a rack here at work until i get settled-in in Nanaimo, since otherwise it could be out of commission indefinitely! I am also thinking about starting a Nanaimo 2600 meeting when I get out there, since there (sadly) doesn’t appear to be one in that area yet.
