Cannabis, eh?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2003

Today the Canadian government unveiled the details of its proposed new drug laws, which could come into effect soon. I am interested in what the US media has to say about all of this. A google news search turns up various US articles, and many of them speak positively about Canada’s new approach. Take, for example, this one, which suggests that the US government is afraid that Canada’s policies will help to prove the ineffectiveness of US policies.

The house has sold, after only 3 weeks on the market. Basically that allows us to get plans in motion for the actual move - which has to happen before July 31. That gives us 11 weeks to acquire a moving van, pack our stuff, and finish recruiting a couple of people to help us with the driving. The Matrix preview was last night, and it officially opens today - but i won’t be going to see it until Saturday. Yes, ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ is important, but not THAT important.

Them Dern Twisters.

The residents of tornado alley continue to, yet again, be at the mercy of the weather. Surprise surprise. And they still continue to erect mobile homes instead of dwellings that are a little more resilient! But that’s beside the point - i wanted to relate what i heard on CNN this afternoon: “Twister Attacks Continue”. Excuse me? Since when did a storm attack anyone!?

A Tape-Drive Tale

Thursday, May 8th, 2003

For a while i’ve had one machine that couldn’t manipulate the tape drive - mt would report, “The device is offline (not powered on, no tape ?).”, which seemed odd since the drive WAS powered and DID have a tape! After changing out the drive, I still had the same problem, which seemed even more ridiculous, unless the problem was with the SCSI bus, which would really be a nuisance. For some reason, until now, I had not even bothered examining the tape cartridge. Flipping back the tape cover revealed, to my surprise, a mangled tape. (hmm, this was a brand new tape right before the drive stopped working). I put a new tape in and everything seems to be working fine now! The drive manual claims that I should not have to ever clean the drive, so i can’t figure out what could have happened, unless it was simply to do with bad media. Oh well, maybe I will perform a precautionary clean on all the tape drives just to be .. paranoid.
