~20 weeks to go.

Friday, January 31st, 2003

First I’d like to apologise to those people who’ve been waiting patiently for a good update. There has been very little going on here besides work (as you may have noticed if you watch the cam). There have been several days when I was about to post some opinions regarding Dubya and Iraq, and my ideas about smoking bylaws.. but I quickly decided that I did not want to bore you with quickly-thrown-together essays that really demanded much more time and thought than I had available. So… today is the last day of January, which means there are exactly 5 months until the last day of June. Why is that important? Well, it means that Porpherya and I have only that much time to get our house sold and our stuff packed ready for the move to BC. FIVE MONTHS! It’s looking at this point like we’ll be renting as soon as we get out there, no matter what.. for a couple of months at least, until she finds work and we can nail down exactly where we’ll be living for the next 5 yrs or so. Yes, even that place will be temporary, since we plan to build our own place as soon as possible; but of course, that requires owning land and having money. Ugh.

Cutting it fine.

Today was mrproper’s last day in Canada for a while. His train left for Chicago at around 6:30am this morning from Toronto, which meant we had to leave Orillia at around 4:30am. Yuck. That was assuming the driving conditions would be good, which they were not. So, at 5:45 we hit the 401, making pretty good time, until i accidentally ended up in the Allan Rd Exit lane and it was too slippery to make a mad dash back on to the highway. I determined that we should just turn around on Allen Rd and get back on the 401, but that’s damn near imppossible, and we almost got lost as i noodled my way to Dufferin - where it seemed to be the only option to take THAT route into the the city, since we’d now wasted about 10 precious minutes and were no longer making good time. YikesTo make long story short, we ended up at union station at 6:25. Since parking is in short supply I dropped him at the arrivals level and he went on his way…. I sure hope he made the train!!
