Resolutions
Monday, December 30th, 2002Funny how the word resolution immediately makes me think ‘Domain name system’, and ‘Screen dimensions’, long before I ever think of ‘promises for the new year’. That’s because New Year’s Resolutions are silly. Why do some people feel that they need some arbitrary start-date for doing something that might better themselves? Why not just show some gumption and start NOW? I hope my readers had a good holiday. Mine went quite well; the family get togethers were few and small . One of the obligatory gifts i received was a triple LED skull-beam, perfect for camping and infiltration. I also received some beer, some chocolate, and some coffee. So while I still hate the idea of obiligatory gift giving, i certainly don’t hate the gift givers themselves and am always thankful. But I really should emphasize that if you truly believe that Xmas giving is NOT obligatory, and is all about wanting to give someone something meaningful, then Give people a few (or even ONE) good-quality or hand-made items, not a whole bunch of crappy no-name products! I must say I had fun finding small quality camping-equipment items for my significant other, and I enjoyed spending hours painting the colour onto a hundred home-made chocolates. Yes, If ‘it’s the thought that counts’, then put some thought into it. Please. So this new year’s eve, I am not attending Aquatica at Vancouver Aquarium as I would have liked to, since i’m not yet living in the area. Maybe next year. Instead I’m attending a private party at KodeKrash’s place which will involve billiards and alcohol. Sounds good to me! On the evening of the 2nd, mrproper of Ximian fame arrives from Chicago. We have nothing specific planned yet, but he may attend the barrie 2600 meeting with me on friday. Should be a good start to 2003. Happy New Year everyone!
