Cookie Madness.

Tuesday, November 12th, 2002

So i’ve been unable to post articles; mostly because my blog login wasn’t working, but also because i was too lazy to do it manually (ie, using vi). Turns out my default cookie expiry was Nov 9th 2002. (fixed now of course). vi. I use vi. I like using vi. However, i also use joe sometimes, and i’ve used emacs in the past. I might even use emacs again, and i certainly don’t hate people who use emacs. Now, ed on the other hand…. I’ve been trying to come up with a way to store energy for an off-the-grid home, without having to use cumbersome, expensive, and environmentally-unfriendly batteries. The current solution is to produce hydrogen and oxygen gas through electrolysis (with electricity produced through by solar/wind means). The hydrogen and oxygen are then stored for use in a secondary generation stage - either utilizing direct hydrogen combustion that drives a gas-turbine, or by burning the hydrogen to heat a boiler, which will in turn produce steam to drive a steam turbine. Of course, both secondary stages are closed systems using our good friend, H 2O. I’ll post more information once i’ve finished the bryton-rankin cycle calculations on the bugger. “This hour has 22 minutes” moved from Monday night to ‘Buffy Night’, and is on at the same time. It really pisses me off, and I have to keep missing THH22M! However, i really should remember to buy blank VHS tapes once in a while. CFTM is delayed. Not indefinitely, but for a while. I have barely learned any php yet, so you do the math. Maybe I’ll be back in BC before it comes to fruitition… i sure hope not! Over and out.

Automatic for the People?

Friday, November 1st, 2002

You know what the problem is with automatic transmission? It creates, no, it encourages lazy drivers. Never having to select the appropriate gear, one would find it difficult to learn WHY lower gears are important (they’re not just there for the sole purpose of getting you to a higher gear!). When the snow comes, you see the results of the ‘automatic infection’, as people get “stuck” trying to accellerate from a stopped position, while not even on an incline. Inclines make it worse! My house is situatied on a hill, and in front of my house, a road goes up that hill. I see many people backing down the hill because they can’t get going up it. They’ve of course put the vehicle in ‘Drive’ and can’t understand why the wheels spin. There’s a first gear there you can lock into! Use the fucking thing!
